    M10 4-speed -> 5-speed swap?

    I've got a 2002 with a M10 from an E21 (still to confirm). I am desperatly in need of a 5th gear on the highway (I cruise @ 75 at a bit north of 4k rpms). I do have a 5-speed from an M42 in my 318is. Can anyone confirm if this'll bolt up?

    I can confirm that it will NOT.

    Your options are basically threefold:

    1) Install e21 320i 5speed. This will require shifter mods, but is relatively straightforward and insanely well documented out in interwebland.

    2) Install e30 318i 5speed. Requires shifter mods, and will disable your speedometer, as the e30 introduced an electronic speedo.

    3) Install e30 M3 5 speed. See above but double or triple the cost.

    Get one from an e21, save yourself a lot of trouble.

            The engine has been fritzing on me the last few months so it's up right now until I have a solid place to store it and work on it and really work it from the ground up (or sell it). But yeah, I drive an '02. I'm also looking at a few Miata's currently for something a little more reliable and I can really wail on the auto-x course.
