    tell me what i need

    hey folks,
i will soon be buying a new transmission and while its out i want to do whatever maintanence etc , what should i get, the 3 seals obviously, pilot bearing, clutch, TOB
    what else should i get?
also i would like to get the shifter as firm as possible what should i replace for that?

on a related note, whats the life of a pilot bearing, this engine only has like 20k on it therefor the pilot only has 20k on it, should i bother with going through the hasle of taking the flywheel off.

I'm not 2 sure, as I have not started my trans swap project, but i would replace the bearing while u have the trans off. good preventative maintence.

pelicanparts.com has a nice shifter linkage rebuild kit that made my life easier.

ok... there are several bearings in a transmission, be more specific, if you mean the TOB then no shit

might as well replace both the TOB and the pilot bearing while you're in there. As well as the rear main seal.

It sounds like you're set on doing everything so obviously the clutch, pressure plate, flywheel resurfacing, and rebuild your linkage. For the linkage, replace 6,8,2,3,14,11,12, and 13 (and related parts) if it hasn't been replaced, and I've heard some people recommend replacing the shift rod as well. Order from Patrick@ http://www.bmaparts.com.
Also, for 2 I highly recommend the UUC delrin carrier bushings which can be purchased here: http://www.UUCmotorwerks.com

how many miles can a pilot bearing take, this engine only has 20k tops on it and im sure pete put a new one in upon building it. and id rather not take the flywheel off, to save time.

Alex at AKG told me if I send him my shifter he will rebuild it and do his custom SSK for $125 total.

He said to expect a 60% reduction in throw...but maybe the crazy Greek meant a 40% reduction. He said it would be "tight, very fucking tight".

im sstill learnign about the flywheel and bearing craps.. so i cannot help there..

BUT, for the shifter, if you havent already get a Z shifter, i got the z4 2.5i and Love it,

And for the tightness.. mines like its brand new... (b/c it is)
i replaced EVERY bushing and joint down there, only thing re-used was the selector rod and aluminum shifter arm.. i would reccommend the UUC Delrin, but i did not get them to save money.. also, the e30m3 has a rubber shim to replace the "felt washer" in the selector rod joint, but i didnt use this either due to not knowing before i ordered everything..

replace everything and it will be "tight" do the couple upgrades things and it could be "tighter"

Since you have to drop the drive shaft, I suggest replacing the guibo. Mine started to come apart at about 90 mph on the track last weekend.

And while the shaft is off (and the exhaust is out of the way ;)), overhaul the drive shaft center bearing.
