Noisy 4.10 LSD - rebuild reference?

I recently replaced the diff mount on my 318is (stock rubber), and have noticed that my diff sounds like a Blendtec chewing up a new iPhone. Since I dd my car it’s kind of annoying... but beyond that it’s probably just good form to rebuild it.

Anyone have a reference for a good diff rebuilder in the LA area, preferably the valley or close to it?? Thanks!!

Forget Rebuilding. Go on Craigslist in your area, I know for a fact there are 4.10 LSD’s for sale in the LA area. Change the fluid, maybe regasket it, add the new mount, maybe add some paint, swap it in, call it a day.

There's someone in Sun Valley who supposedly has one for $400. I'm guessing that's an ok deal but no idea how many miles, condition, etc. And there happens to be a dude in Sun Valley who sells E30 parts, was trying to procure a stock exhaust and cat from him and he was extra shady. No idea if it's the same guy, but......

If it's between swapping and rebuilding for about the same cash, I'd just as soon rebuild as it's original to the car. But no idea how much the rebuild is, think it'd be more than a used one?

Go for the rebuild if you can swing the cost. Look in the forums here, iirc one of the mods has a business rebuilding them.

You need to remember, unless you find one you know has been rebuilt in the recent past, they are all at least 25 years old.

          I rebuild small case LSD's.

Relatively inexpensive as far as a professional job goes. As a trade off, it usually takes me a while.

At the least, if you want a bit more understanding of the parameters involved and want two extra cents on the subject, shoot me an email.

Agreed. If I’m going with a 27 year old diff, may as well have a little history with it...Agent looks like he does some amazing work but it’s fairly $$. Not a bad thing for quality craftsmanship, but getting a range of cost is helpful.
