No reverse or 5th after new shifter

So I initially had a sheet metal shift console that I converted to the aluminum type carrier. Now, after installing a short shifter I can not shift into reverse, 3rd is questionable and there is no 5th gear. I also still have the balancer on the transmission, but it’s the type that’s attached to the transmission and not the drive shaft. Is it possible the shift rod is too long? Also how would I go about removing that type of balancer?

If you have a bent style shift lever, perhaps you installed it backwards?

Sounds like a friend and some sturdy jack stands are in your future. But Andrew hit a good point.

I could use the sheet metal shifter plate if you don't need it.
