    Getrag 260 detent cap replacement

I've got a leak from the rear of my transmission, and I think its the detent cover/cap, since the areas around the shaft seals are dry.

Can this cap be changed with the transmission in place, or will I need to drop the rear down a few inches? Should I expect the springs and balls to fall out easily once the cap is loose?

I understand the newer designed caps have an integrated seal. Should I supplement this with RTV or something similar?

    Thanks

You can do it by dropping the trans mount and jacking the front of the motor to get some more clearance. Replace it with the new part, do not use RTV.
