Hey there,
So I've researched quite a bit and know that the lower ratio (below 3.07 gear ratio) can't simply swap the ring and pinion gears to a higher ratio (such as a 3.15/3.45/3.73 etc) as there will be a gap and the ring and pinion won't be properly seated.
I've also found that people install extra shims to bridge that gap.
My question, hopefully for the differential/gearing guru's... I've got my eye on a spacer kit that bridges that gap (will post a link to it), and a set of 3.45 ring and pinion gears for my medium case differential. With the spacer kit and the gears, would I be able to essentially swap this into my medium case differential? Or maybe only do the ring gear and leave the pinion installed, as is?
I have a 1987 325es with the 2.93 LSD gears. Even with the turbo it's still way too long.
Links below are what I have my eye on, just wondering if it's a waste. I'm also eyeing up the 3.25 gear sets, or a 3.25 rear end but the only ones I'm finding complete are unknown history and like $550 shipped to me.
The website is: racingdiffs.com .. below are the links for their eBay posts.
Gear Set: (This company has 3.15/3.25/3.45/3.73/3.91,etc)
Spacer Kit:
Hate to buy anything on eBay but the seller seems to know what he's talking about and seems to have solid reviews.
Really appreciate any help, TIA!
