Swift kicks in the right direction appreciated.

I caught talk of tranny movement and its effect on gear changes in another thread and these words led me to believe someone here has some insight for me.

    First the backround:

    1988 325iX

Ive posted about this on roachfly with no help and its been a persistent problemo. [approaching 2yr]

The shifter and TO was a disaster(shrapnel lodged in the casing) so it was assumed to be apart of those issues...Now all has been fixed.
(New OEM bits and pieces fitted z3 1.9 shifter,R&R good condition trans, no leaks etc)

    So onto the issue:

When in full effect the car drives with the exceptional throttle/gear response and the shifts are effortless and almost 'progressive' in a way that they just sink like butter into the next gear. in order to keep the crispy feel i need to jump very quickly in 1st, or while stopped plop it into 4th and 1st a couple times. "aligning" it by a quick jump in 1st gear makes a much better response through the gears then the plop method. yet I find myself plopping it into 1st and 4th everytime i come to a stop to maintain the good feeling from the last jump in 1st.

If i dont do what I mentioned above the upshifts feel less progressive and the throttle response is degraded. shifting gears is tougher/notchy.

    Like the title says

Swift kicks in the right direction apreciated.

      Found this snip:

Remember, mixing and matching of the incorrect clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel components can lead to inconsistent engagement and feel
