Impact wrench makes very short work of that. Buy one for about $100 (IR231) or rent it for a few bucks.

    Cheers,

Na, it's sitting on the garage floor, same as it was a year ago. If I do anything with it, I'll probably do it after it's installed in the car. Otherwise, I no way to torque on the nut that holds on the output flange.

We did have it that way, but I don't know if we had to. Wow....you're in St Louis. Almost close enough to hear our cursing over here in Kansas City.

If you heard, "FUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHCK" and smacked your kid in the back seat for cursing you should tell him you are sorry and one of your internet friends set the record straight.

We removed the lock bolts holding the guibo onto the driveshaft, and pulled that sucker off there. You have to loosen the collar on the driveshaft to compress it sometimes, and it was a flaming biatch anyway. When we put it back on we'll swing the diff outta there to do so.

Or just leave the guibo out and pack JB weld in there. Probably have about the same chance of grenading.

Did you have to have the tranny bolted to the engine and lock the crankshaft in place to remove and install the nut?

So for some unknown reason the VD is installed on the output shaft(mine wasn't)big deal. Why not remove the nut,tap out the studs, and be done.

There are two types of vibration dampers. My 11/86 production 325is has the type with M10x54mm long hex-head bolts. You take off the nut forward of the transmission output flange, pull the bolt out toward the back of the car, and then turn the vibration damper 60 degrees to release the vibration damper from the output flange.

The one pictured has the knurled shoulder, round-head bolts pressed into the vibration damper and output flange. You have to remove the output flange to press out the bolts.

The one on my 85 528 is just like that picture that was posted. Isnt it held on by the output shaft nut on the trans?

    Will

So, did you manage to remove the vibration dampener. I have the same style on my 87 325i and wondering if there any tricks to removing it.

yup, came off my 2/86 325es

The vibration dampener may be new though, it doesn't match the diagram on realoem.com either.

I had a rebuilt driveshaft from the dealer put on a couple of years ago, it may be a new design that was installed at the same time.... :?
