    Manual swap help

I am in the middle of a 5 speed swap in my 89 325is. All of the main parts driveshaft, tranny, pedals etc. are coming off my donor car 87 325is.The other misc parts I ordered from pelican. I have a couple technical questions that I could use some insight on..

    1. How far is the pilot bearing supposed to seat into the crank?

    2. Pelican sells a couple items that I haven't seen mentioned in any of my research on the swap, nor does it mention these parts in my Haynes manual..

Do I need these items? And why? what do they do?

Cover Plate for Felt Ring at Pilot Bearing, Part # 11-21-1-744-342-M9
Cover Plate for Back Side of Pilot Bearing, Part # 11-21-1-744-345-M9
Felt Ring for Pilot Bearing, Part # 11-21-1-744-601-M9

    3. There were two spacers for the flexplate that came off my auto. Do I use the 1/8" spacer or the 1/4" for the flywheel? Right now I have the 1/8" one in there and it looks ok to me. Just making sure I am good to go ....?

I did search for these topics....

    Thanks in advance!!!

I would not worry about those items listed .

Just tap the pilot bearing into the crank until it is flush and it willl be fine .

On the flywheel use the thinner spacer .

You will also need to order/use the smaller Center Support Bearing for your late body .

Do you have a handle on bypassing the neutral safety switch yet ?

On my 86 325es, I needed to jumper the green/yellow and green/black for the neutral safety switch. It may be different for you. Thats good your going from an 87 to an 89 chassis because you dont have to dick with the sensors on the bell housing.

The felt and covers are for the original non-sealed pilot bearing. All new pilot bearings should be sealed bearings, and not use those parts.
