    S14 polyurethane motor mounts?

I have had 3 calls today from 3 different S14 owners, plus one of our dealers yesterday, looking for competition motor mounts that would be a better alternative to the $800 Groupe N mounts (that are only 20% stiffer than stock?!). We hear you E30 community - and we're all over it. :D

Similar to the Competition motor mounts we already make for the E36/46 and E30-6 cylinders, and S50-E30 swap mounts under development, we're gearing up to produce both Polyurethane and Nylon versions for the S14. Should have something in a limited run within 3-4 weeks.

We'll offer them in super-stiff Nylon for the hard-core track racers (Shoreline 70D durometer) as well as stiff Polyurethane (Shoreline 90A or 95A durometer) for S14s that see some street duty. Will have the same external dimensions, height, and locating pins as OEM mounts. If there is a provision for a heat shield on the OEM mount, we will include that (our E36 mount works with the stock heat shield). Price range will be $169-199/pair, depending on some manufacturing factors and mold costs.

If the reaction from the E36/46 mounts are any indication, you'll like the results. Firms up the driveline mounting dramatically for more direct shifts and instant throttle response. Don't recommend them for your grandmother's E30, but for any S14 powered car that sees aggressive shifting or track use, these will work wonders.

Looking for E30 track/street testers to help prove out the design on a small prototype run before moving into full production.

    Hi Terry.

My 2002 racecar had poly motor mounts for 4 years. Which is why I elected to install a set on my e30 M3. The first set I ordered was from AKG. I returned them before even installing them. They were a blob of polyurethane with a long bolt going thru them. Bad design for street or race. Then I ordered a set from Ireland. The first set lasted 2 weeks. One of the cups delaminated. Then, I installed a second set they sent me, and it still is fine after 2 months and several track weekends (I am a BMWCCA BMWCC and Audi club instructor). I volunteer to test a set, and could even distribute them in Canada if you need some push up North.

Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

After having the S14 molds built we now have Polyurethane Competition S14 Motor Mounts to go along with the Nylon insert version. Nylon version is race only, whereas the Poly version is more street friendly - but still much stiffer than stock. These cannot "delaminate" like other designs or the OEM mounts. They were built to have the same height as a compressed OEM mount.

The Polyurethane version has a Shoreline 85 A durometer and uses the same design as our extremely popular E36/46 Competition Motor Mount. Cost is $199 for the pair.

Here's some stuff from our website...

Why upgrade to Vorshlag Competition Motor Mounts?
      • Correct shifter geometry for every shift
      • Easy shifting in mid-turn, no drivetrain slop
      • Up- or downshift while loaded and under power!
      • Direct feel under braking and acceleration
      • Instant throttle and engine torque response!
      • Radically reduces "Money Shift" potential
The BMW E30 S14 models have a body mounted shifter, a rubber isolated shift handle, a high Center of Mass engine, and sloppy stock motor mounts and transmission bushings. This allows the driveline to flop and slop around like a bucking bull, on a hard driven car with track duty tires. Load the chassis and motor up into a corner and good luck finding the next gear, especially on downshifts. Vorshlag Competition mounts cure what ails the BMW chassis! These will keep the engine planted with the chassis, and that "wind-up" driveline will be no more. If your motor mounts have more than 80K miles of them, they are shot. Do yourself a favor - lock down that driveline and enjoy smoother, more positive shifting on the street and track.
      Cheers,
