The 87 325is' saga continues. I figured out today that the master cylinder has an issue. That issue is that the plunger rod, which links the cylinder's piston with the pedal assembly, is more attached to the pedal than to the master cylinder. That is to say that by pulling up on the pedal (not that I'd want to), the plunger will happily pop right out of the cylinder. It is loose from the piston. WTH?
I'm guessing that even if I could re-connect the rod to the piston (it appears to be a 'ball' fitting that probably needs a good 30lbs of pressure to insert), I'd probably have to pull the whole thing to do it. The hydraulics still function, but I'd hate it if the rod popped out while I was driving, preventing me from shifting. Would this alone be replacement criteria?
