Our local B dub club had a project day meet and I have had a clunk in the back of the car since I did the swap, so I decided I would do the axle on the side that was clunkin. After removing the wheel I noticed that since I had the exhaust done the muffler is rubbing the shock, that's the clunk. Ok great something I don't have to do. Well the boot was shot and it felt like it was lackin the packin so I figured I would change it out. After I got off the nut I took a deep 13mm impact socket and tapped it out. Simple enough, I go to put the new one in and it would only go in about a half inch.... so I got a wire brush and hit the inside splines and then took some excess packing lube and greased it up along with the axle thinkin that would make this go a little smoother, wrong. I had to tap this thing in with a 3lb hammer while spinning it to get it even. In the process I damaged the thin stamped sheet metal that attaches the boot to the stub axle piece.
So there has to be a better way to do this. Ideas?
