    Driveshaft collar nut

    I got a re-manufactured driveshaft (portland - driveline services).
I am not able to loosen the collar nut on it - i tried it with a adjustable wrench/plier. I tried with the driveshaft in the car and out the car.
I sprayed a bunch of PBBlaster too.

When I removed the old driveshaft, the collar nut was only hand tight.

Is it necessary for the collar nut to be only hand tight ? Or can I just leave it as is ? I can fit and remove the driveshaft as is.

If I have to loosen it, what are my options ? I tried the local sears/autozone/etc. to find a big enough wrench without any success.

    thanks,
    Bala
PS: Damn the two piece driveshaft :-(

It will be fine as is. Although it might be a little harder to compress it when taking it off next time though. It will be fine though.

So, once in the car, they don't slide on the splines ?

it slides maybe a couple thousandths of an inch when you are driving, or if your chassis is flexing

Sorry to bump such an ancient thread.
The collar nut on the driveshaft:

It's regular lefty loosey, righty tighty, correct?

I'm having trouble, and don't want to crank on it the wrong way...

          Thanks!

              How tight should it be?

Pretty snug, but not wrenched on real hard.

just discovered mine was completely unscrewed... I accidentally pulled the driveshaft in half with the diff out.
