    Euro 6 speed

so I was thinking while bored at work today.

    does this logic work?

    M50 fits M20 transmission.

    M20 then fits M50 transmission

    M50 fits S50 transmission

    S50 fits a Euro S50 transmission

If M20 can fit an M50 transmission, and an M50 can fit a S50 transmission, then a M20 can fit a S50 transmission, and a euro S50 transmission?

    what do you think?

There are plenty of times I feel the need for a 6th gear on the highways... this would be great if it worked. Sadly enough though, my budget would never allow it to be so.

Yes, it should work, but here are some things to think about.

      1) The euro 6-speed costs more than the average e30
      2) You would have to build a custom tranny bracket to rotate the tranny 10* because of the differences between the m20 and s50
      3) You would need a shorter driveshaft. (probably custom because I doubt you'll find one the right length)

Nah, you can use an automatic E36 M3 driveshaft, but you'd have to change the center bearing support with an E30 unit.

If memory serves, 6th gear in a Euro tranny is the pretty much same ration as 5th in a Getrag 260 (0.82 vs 0.81). So all you gain in more lower road speed ratios. I think the driveshaft length is different, so a modified DS would likely be required.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

If you match the diff ratio to the gb, should turn out pretty mean.

I went the other way and went 4spd. Now, I do 60mph @ 3500rpm. not good with a 3.46 diff. I have just purchased the (new to me) 2.79 crown and pinion gears to make more use of the torque i have.

better than the chip+intake+exhaust=50 horsepower calculator right?

                  so for more thinking.

6 speed is longer than the 5 speed.

325ix requires a shorter driveshaft due to the transfer case...hmmm.

rotating the tranny mounts 10 degrees:

how do normal S50 conversion guys do it?

lower the diff ratio that the normal 6 speed cars have should provide nice cruise speed. not concerned about top speed, 240kph in an E30 is scary enough!

To you techs that know the e30 combo that work with 24v swaps. My 24v,95zf,and 3:25 runs too high of rpms at cruise. Aprox 4k at 70mph, I love the pull the car has threw the gears but I need better cruising rpm. The next rear gearing is ,what 2:93? So 2:93 and a 6 speed?? What works?? thanks joe
