bolt on diff. swap or not??

I have a 92' 318iC (vert) w/ a toasted 4:27lsd. I have access to a 4:10 lsd from a M3. I'm not really sure on the small case vS. large case compatiblity factor. Will this be a bolt on or not?? If noty what do I need to swap to make this work?

Any e30 diff will fit in another e30

Small case needs small case input shaft, and output shafts

Medium case needs medium case input shaft, and output shafts

All of which "should" come with the differential.

Small case is not as strong as the medium case FYI.

The input shafts are the same.

i thought the 318 had a shorter distance between the 2 mounting holes on the very top of the diff. which would mean you would have to swap the rear subframe to accomodate the m3 case. the 4:10 i got out of an m3 bolted right up to my 89 325i with no issues.

could be wrong though, hope it helps

                    OK listen up :

The bigger (med) 6cyl E30 diff is a direct bolt-in replacement for the 4cyl small case differential .

No need to swap output flanges, covers or anything .
No modifications necessary other than getting the right ratio for your needs .

                    I've swapped in a M3's 4.10 and an 325is' 3.73 into my 318is without changing anything .

                    Here is the M3's 4.10 w/Mcoupe cover in the 318 :

I've got side by side pics of the small case versus the medium case on my work pc that I can post if need be .

Pedal2metal : You know thats an E21 in your avatar , right ?

                    E30 M3 / E30 325is / E34 525iT / E34 535i

Like Teaguer they fit just fine w/o any modification. I've installed a 325i s3.73 on my 318i 4cyl w/o doing any modifications at all and it fit just fine.
