Has this ever happened to you?

Pulled to a stop sign last night took it outta gear looked both ways and then reached down to put it in first and this is what i saw

pulled over pulled it apart and discovered this:
    yea shit broke clean off
    Ireland engineering short shifter
has this ever happened to any of you guys?
before you get any ideas i was NOT racing or slamming through the gears or anything of the sort i was driving under normal conditions when this occurred.
Ive been looking into getting a replacement and ive been doing some research on the z3 z4 shifters and it seems as though there was never a clear cut answer as to which one to get. can anybody point me in the right direction? Im jobless so the most economical option is likely the one i'll be choosing
    thanks in advance

    hahahahah

Z3 1.9 is a good all around shift lever, slightly shorter than stock.

z3 2.8/3.0 is a moderately short shifter, more of the racing feel (if done right)

z3 M Coupe shifter, very short, requires modification to the shift console to get the linkage right. Could be notchy if not done right.

Those are the only ones that i have worked with

I dont have part numbers, a quick look on realoem should help.

Done right means you dont bend the selector rod, and you raise the pivot point of the shifter (basically think of a b&m shifter, how it is raised)

You can just bend the selector rod and install a z3 mcoupe shifter, but it would be really notchy

Im pretty sure all of the shifters are under $60 at the dealer.

see im trying to avoid bending it because bending it will weaken it at that point and then increase the likliehood of it breaking again and then id be back at square one

The shift lever does not need to be bent. The selector rod is what people bend to clear the guibo.

                z3 1.9 for minimal effort.

get the z4 one (3.0 6 speed) if that matters, don't think it does. little notchy but, you don't have pony tails or a cheerleader skirt so that shouldn't matter.

can you show me a diagram depicting how the selector rod must be bent in order to make the shifter work?
