Please keep in mind many few here have physically seen an M40 car, let alone worked on one. I have seen several, but have not worked on any of them.

The M40 and M42 share the same Getrag transmission, so any one from a M42 equipped car should work out alright.

In terms of the M10 parts car, I do not beileve the Getrag 240 will bolt up to the M40

M40 uses the same engine block as the M42.
My 316I has a getrag 240, and several M42 cars came with getrag 240 as well - so there should be no problem coupling an M40 with GR260 or an M42 with GR240.
another important thing is that the M40B16 and the M40B18 uses the same gearboxes - FYI.

what im not sure about is the differences between those two.

well ive found out today that the gearbox from the strip car with the m10 motor does not fit up. The gearbox bolt holes are slightly different. I believe its a getrag 240. But also i found out that the scrap car has a brand new clutch and a lightned flywheel. Can i swap these parts over to the 260? it seems to be possible. Any help?
