Z4 or Euro E36 M3 are the most common options.

The E46 M3, E46 330 or the Z4 trans would be the better option since the Euro 6-spd is more costly .

When I was looking around for prices last summer I saw them as low as $1500 which is very doable .

YOu would need a custom shortened driveshaft and the trans would be rotated 10degrees off .
You'd have to compensate that with a bent shift linkage .

Other than that it seems pretty straightforward .

i'm going to assume this isn't going to work for an iX or will it?

So then do all of the clutches interchange if you use the corresponding flywheel? Or then are you also going to have to make sure that the flywheel with work with your starter?

I would assume that you would need everything from the flywheel to the tail shaft of the 6-speed stuff since the clutch thickness may be different and need a different sized TO bearing, although you could just put stuff next to each other and measure and check.

Never really thought about this. Does anyone have any drivability feedback? I would assume since gearing is different your final drive could be much lower/may need to be much lower.

the six speed g420 is basically a close ratio 5 speed with an overdrive. the final drive ratio should be based on what ever the person doing the swap's goals are. if you want highway cruising at low rpm, perhaps a 3.46 or 3.23. if you want make it off the line quickly, maybe 4.10 is what you want.
