Shifting arm or Straight Selector rod ?

I would really like to get this resolved and I think it's down to these two or three items possibly ?

Does the #5 (shifting arm 25111220316) or #6 straight selector rod (25111220501) wear out over time ? Does the #4 ball cup lower item come with the shifting arm ?

I've already replaced two supportinb brackets #1 that connect to the tranny case, stop buffer #7 is also new oem unit (also have a new aftermarket / diy part to replace it) and gearshift rod joint #16 and it made almost no difference in the shifter slop (side to side).

That's what my transmission was doing after my car was wrecked, it was support brackets. Could the side to side slop be the plastic bushings?

What support brackets exactly ?

Replacing part #16 should have taken a bit out of the slop. The plastic bushings tend to ovalize and that's usually what makes side-to-side play worse. Check out UUC's double shear selector rod. It may help you out a bit.

I found out #16 has about 1/4" of play, it was replaced by a shop about 2+ months ago, is it possible for it to wear out that fast ?

would it be at all possible to convert to the aluminum shift console from the later model e30s?

You can convert everything to the later model stuff. There is even a spot for where it connects to the body.

Are you saying m10 tranny has a spot for a late console ?

I suppose it's possible that the bushing wore out that fast. It seems unlikely but, then again, it's only plastic. Plastic is very unreliable...

Probably to save on cost.

Does anybody have access to ETK or whatever it's called to see if a later style shifter lever would fit ? I think one with less moving parts is going to cause me less issues , less things to go wrong or wear out...
