Any comments on the understeer brand shifters ? They actually make something for both older (pre 86) and newer e30s so that's why I am looking at them.

all they are is stock parts from different models with all the bushings and stuff you need to replace. might even be cheaper to get it off BMAYour signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Id like to know of a lever that we can fit the bushings over like the 2 piece stock lever. any ideas?? my car has the sheet metal console in it aswell and I definantly want to upgrade the selector rod. but the site I was looking at showed that you had to cut the upper bushing to get it over the pivot ball, are there any rods skinny enough to fit the bushing over the top without cuting?? let me know.sigpic

No you dont have to cut it but you have to take about 2mm off the inside of the stock upper plastic bushing I used an exacto knife and a set of hobby files. Its really insignificant. Just enough that it will slide over the upper portion of the lever. It on from the top of the lever and the lower already has notches in it to fit over the selector rod joint on the bottom of the lever.
I should have taken pictures.

No need to cut I just bought the E30 budget shift arm from CARR industries and the bushings slid right over without modification. However, I did modify the old upper bushing so that it replaced the spring to tighten things up and it worked great. I also made a couple of bushings for the cup that the shifter ball sits in. I used an aluminum can and cut out two long rectangles so that they would fit inside and hug the wall of the cup. I did this because I noticed that the upper and lower ball cup bushings would move a couple MM from side to side. and wow did that ever work. There is no movement of the bushings or the shift lever. I am also going to use a poly rear mount for the sheetmetal console, that I picked up off a forum member for $15 bux. I guess im going to use stock shift tower mounts up front unless I decide to fab up some out of aluminum stock with my drill and angle grinder. "Ive made bongs out of less!" lol jksigpic
