Will E36 diff work in an E30?

My brother just bought a 95 3 series and I have an extra 3.73 diff. Will it work in his car?

    Thank's R3v

    Nope...

You can use E24, E28, and E23 medium case diffs. :) direct bolt in, once you swap the rear cover

E36 is its own special beast. He should look for a 3.23 out of a 96 M3.

        look for a 3.15 from a 95 m3 or 3.23 from 96-99 m3's

          oh wait... I thought I read that he bought a 95 M3...

if it is just a regular 3 series (non M3), look for an s3.38 out of a 95-99 M3 auto, an s3.23 out of a 97-99 M3 manual, or an s3.91 out of a 325i/is/ic auto.

The 95 and 96 M3 diffs won't directly bolt in.

So these diffs (think from e36s?) I can use? What im wanting to do is change my 3.73lsd to a higher ratio like a 3.15 to suit my v8? Can i change over the internals ? one of these diffs is a 3.15

Why not save the effort and get a 3.25 from an E28? You can also get a 3.07 out of a euro 635.
