they're sockets, with sharp flutes. When turned with a wrench or breaker bar, they bite into the nut and it moves.

            see http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...yword=bolt+out

ok that looks like what i need if i had a regular drain plug (ie oil drain plug) the tranny drain plug on my car has a threaded outside..and the wrench goes on the inside of plug

For the internal wrenching plugs, drill out the center with an 1/8th drill, clean up the mess, let it finish draining. then step up drill sizes, should relieve pressure on threads and come out with around a 3/8th or so drill hole.

Sorry, you're right, probably wouldn't work for you. Can you hammer in the next size up torx or hex bit in?

I know that the female allen bolts on the axles are a pain in the ass until you clean all the dirt out of the hole. They're deeper than they appear, and once you clean the hole out entirely, the allen socket will sit better. For those my best luck has been with a half inch drive allen socket and a 3 foot breaker bar. I'll often hammer the bit in to get it deep in the hole.

this drain plug isnt deep at all...its like 1/4 inch deep and yea stripped to shit...and probably hasnt moved in like ten years...

dont they have a bolt out with the sharp threads on the outside?
                    blahhh

                          #%@#%@ ok sooooooooooooo #@@#

the drain plug is 17mm , my hex 17mm will strip it if i use it...

so i bought a 19mm, the next size up, and have been filing it down to get it to fit my plug...but it takes blippin forever ive been filing for the last hour blahhh

then i tried channel locks, to grip the threads on the outside and twist it off....after a few muscling tries...i gave up on that one

i dont give a shit what happens to this plug...because ill get a new one to replace it with...unless bmw wants to charge me 50 bucks for one.

i looked on bavauto but they didnt have one listed for my car...anyone know where i can get another one from somewhere else?

                          so i have 3 options,

take it to someone and pay 20 bucks for them to take it out..

keep blipping filing the 19 till it will fit

drill it out like cooper said, which is something im still skeptical about because what if it still doesnt come out after i drill it??

                          blah i need advice

How about a chisel and a hammer? Chisel around the outside of the plug and hopefully it will move. Drain plug I think is part number 23117527440 and retail is $5.08 I found it on this page. number 2 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...10&hg=23&fg=15

take it to a mom pop muffler shop have them weld a hex head bolt of 17mm dia into the allen hole on the tranny drain bolt... then put a socket and pull the sucker out... ask me how I know this works

dont wast your time with Midas and those other places. They wont touch a job like this for fear of liability. I found a biker own shop and the guy did it for $15 and only took about 10minutes. they even cleaned the threads afterwards.

I have them do the same on a junkyard exhaust that had a tore up o2 sensor in it. The nut on the sensor was strip so I had them weld a 1/2 dia hex head bolt to the remains of the o2 sensor and was able to take out the nut that way
