m42 to m20?!? Any Transmission probs?

Hi guys, I've researched alot but no one has seemed to have gone from m42 to m20 its all m50 this s50 that. Anyway I drive a 89 318i and i managed to get my hands on a 325i m20. I was hoping i could put this in my e30 without much trouble.

My main concern is my manual transmission as i just put a brand new clutch in it. I dont wana get rid of my transmission with the brand new clutch just for a ebay tranny that will fit the m20.

So im pretty much asking... will my m20 fit my good tranny that used 2 be with my m42?

    Thanks in advance, Ryan

(ps. i realise you would prbly want details/ID no.s of the tranny which i will get this arvo if any1 asks. oh and before you suggest m50/s50, I live in Australia and i've seen a few of these cars on ebay witht he motor swap and they have no re sale value here. thats why i'd rather turn my car into a genuine 325i) Thanks again.

The clutch is associated with the engine, not the transmission. And you need a different clutch for an M20 engine. I think that you can't use the M42 tranny or driveshaft with M20 either. so to do the swap you'll need an M20B25 engine, harness, DME, transmission, and driveshaft, at the least.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
