Grinding 3rd gear and pops out

I've had my car for a while but it's my first manual car so I am not too enlightened in how exactly a manual transmission works.

Anyway, when I first got it I heard to check to see if the clutch was good, you can put it into 3rd gear and drop the clutch and if it immediately dies then you are in business. Did that, worked out.

Well a few months later, I start to notice that whenever I am having a spirited drive through the gearbox, I seem to be missing 3rd and it would grind. I just wrote it off as human error at first, but now I know it's not me. If I put the car in 3rd and drop the clutch it will just pop right out. I tried holding the gear selector in there to see if that would make a difference but just more grinding.

It's not really a problem because I can drive perfectly fine like a normal person, but I like to take my cars to the track sometimes and with a 3rd gear that grinds every time, it just ain't happenin'.

If it only happens in 3rd gear and not in reverse, 1st, or 5th the cause will be a worn selector or dog ring in the transmission. A problem that affects reverse, 1st, 3rd, & 5th would be worn shifter bushings.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

So um, is that a pretty expensive repair?

          That's what happens on mine now ( NO reverse, 1st, 3rd, & 5th )
I just replaced the output seal ( undo the linkage & tranny to gain access)

I really need to get the reverse gear at least, it's sucks

I'm having the exact same problem, posted about it in the other thread about the dudes 4th gear doing this.

I tried changing the fluid, didn't help.

Is there anyway to repair it or is that too difficult to bother compared to the cost of a new transmission?
