well ive offically started my s52 swap by beginning to remove my paperweight m42, im going to start a thread on it tomorrow. but anyways id like to know if rear diffs from e36s are direct bolt ons? i know alot of you use the 3.73 but what id like is for my car to be super quick on the streets, dont really care about highway, if my max is 80mph in 5th at 3000rpm, im happy with that. what rear diff do i need?
need help diff ratio question...

Well umm....with my M20, undersized tires, and a 4.10 diff....I'm at like 4000RPMs in 5th gear going an INDICATED 80 which is like......68mph....
So I guess don't get a 4.10 as that would be TOO short for you.
80mph @ 3000rpm for me would be a godsend -

It all depends on which tranny you're planning to run too.
Oh, and no the E36 diff will not fit.Comment

im going to use the 5 speed that comes with the s52, i didnt no that mattered. so in that case its not 3.73?Comment

Most people are happy with the 3.25 LSD with your motor and tranny combo.Comment

Its matters because the E30's Getrag 260 that is popular to keep with these swaps has a overdriven 5th gear .
While the later ZF's have a 1-to-1 5th gear .
The most ideal ratio for a daily driver would be the 3.46 ...kinda hard to find though and pricey too .
The 3.25 that Matt suggests would eb the 2nd choice ...but will be down on acceleration compared to the 3.46 .Comment
