Is this a bad pilot bearing?

I noticed lately that the transmission is making some abnormal noise. The noise is during normal driving, increases with RPM and goes away when the transmission is in neutral or the clutch is engaged.

To me, seems like maybe the pilot bearing?

It's a metal friction type noise, can be heard over the engine.

Is this is an item i need to replace asap or can i wait a few weeks?

    Thanks,

    Ben

If it makes noise when you have clutch disengaged its the input or layshaft bearing.

The pilot bearing can only make noise when the clutch is disengaged and the transmission is in gear. With the clutch engaged the transmission input shaft and the flywheel are turning together. A bad throwout bearing can make noise with the clutch engaged, as can a worn transmission.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

it's only when the clutch is disengaged and the tranny is in gear.

In that case it probably is the pilot bearing.
