how can I tell if my halfshafts are bad

I don't detect any "play" while the car i jacked up and I spin the wheel. Other then some small cracks on the the boots no other signs that it would be worn. I'm trying to diagnose either a driveshaft or halfshaft noise, its not your typical banging on the tunnel when the guibo/center support is bad noise. It is a slight creeking almost gear lash noise to correspond with some play in the driveline.

Do you have a LSD? How is the fluid? Mine was binding a bit and after getting Redline it is nice and smooth.

swapped lsd for open and still no good

thx w-nizzle. That was one of the first things I checked, I changed the fluid in the LSD, didn't help switched to open diff and same ol sound. I've narrowed it down to half shafts or driveshaft u joints. I even changed the clutch recently because it needed it hoping that would help. It did a little.

Creaking could be a u-joint indeed. Good luck tracking it down. I used to get a 'thunk' that I thought was halfshaft play when parallel parking, but it turned out to be the rear brakes. Stick with it! If nothing else, you will have new parts that you probably needed anyway.

IME, bad halfshafts are more like a "thrumming" with a small shudder while accelerating, getting progressively worse until the whole car shakes. U Joints are more like a clunk, also getting worse until you get a major shudder all the time.

Have you swapped wheels/tires with another car?

I really would like to know what your oddness is, since I plan on owning my car 'till death...its or mine.
