How Much Tq/Power to break Driveline?

Does anyone know how much tq is require to break stock halfshafts/drive shaft on an e30?

Poeple with MCoupe Halfshaft, anyone knwo if it will fit on a regular e30 trailing arm? Obviously it will be 5lug.

Also the Diff, how much pwr can our big case 3:73 take.

Stock should handle that fine. There are several guys who have turboed their cars and reached those kind of numbers (and more).

        For example:

Ft. lbs are ft. lbs. Doesn't matter what makes the power, it's all the same.

More then likely, the tires will break loose long before an axle snaps. But of course, that depends on tire width.

I believe you can swap MZ3 axles to an e30 if you are doing a 5-lug swap, but I'm not sure what is involved or even if it's possible.

You have to use MZ3 trailing arms. The hole for the bearing/hub/axle is HUGE compared to E30 stuff.

heh yeah torque is torque man and you should be thinking about impact loading more than anything. what will you be doing with the car? drag? drift? clutch dropping 24/7?

its likely that something else will give before the a driveshaft...halfshafts maybe at the CV joints but even so they're pretty beefy. she'll live. worse case you have to replace one, but first you let us know! good luck on the swap

Yea, on our cars it's not the CV's that you have to worry about. It's the spline on the end of the axle that pretty much just shears off staying in the wheel hub.

^^honestly, i'd rather the splines shear off than having the possibility of the axle exploding and bumping all over the place back there.
