    Tranny Output seal - stuck

I've got my tranny all nice and removed, trying to replace all the seals. The output seal just pretty much fell apart as I was removing it. Now there is rubber stuck in the outer crevice that I just can't seem to get out. I've tried burning it out and I've tried using a little screwdriver to scrape/pry it out, but this seems to be taking out more metal than rubber.

    Any ideas or advice?

Good tip. I got some day from pep-boys and they seemed to do the trick. I think I have gotten 99% of the old rubber out.

Now, my problem is the new seal doesn't seem to fit at all. This is as far as I could hammer it in:

And right after I took this picture it fell out. I'm confused! I have hammered it in well, there just doesn't seem to be any room for it. It fits perfectly aside from that.
