Anyone that has done a M/T output shaft seal...

Does a 30mm deep socket work with the main nut for the output flange??? All I have is a 30mm impact socket which is not clearing at all.

I'm on my way to Sears, but I'm on my phone. Hit me up if anyone knows this answer. Need this car on the road as of 8 hours ago.

    TIA,

    - Erick

I think you need a thin wall deep socket. I bought a standard socket from sears and spent about 1hr with a dremel and had a socket that would work.

GM oil sending unit sensor tool, which is deep/thin wall socket = 1 3/16 ( the closest to 30 mm) cost about $8.

I used a plumbing blow torch to heat up ( kinda melts the threadlocker) that 30mm nut, and it was alot easier to break it loose.

or, you can always shave/ grind the tip of the 30mm regular deep socket.

^ I just did that. I used a grinder to shave all around the tip till it fit. Still havent tryed to break it loose tho. Let me know how that goes and how you went about it. Good luck>

Any idea of where I can get that? Sounds like a specialty tool.

Thanks for your input guys, sounds like I'll have to shave down a 30mm socket.

Just about at any autoparts store on their shelfs i.e napa, schucks/kragen, o'reiley, autozone, etc
Or,You can ask them ( their computer desk) about that.

When i did mine, that first GM socket cracked after a few hit ( air tool gun).
Then before the 2nd socket, i use plumber blow torch to heat the 30mm nut up ( melts the old threadlocker) and then with just 1 hit, it broke loose :)

I also tried to shave the regular 30mm deep socket, and probably went too far to get it fit, and...it cracked.

I think, the blow torch was the key.

Hope this helps, and...take it to the picnic next week.
