speed dependant ticking when rolling in neutral

My transimission has developed a tick that only occurs when the car is in neutral and rolling, or when the throttle is being maintained, but there is no acceleration or deceleration. It still shifts fine and the car runs strong.

    For example:

Accelerating in any gear - no noise
Declerating in any gear - no noise
Maintaining throttle w/o accel or decel - ticking in accordance w/ maintained speed
Gear selector in neutral, rolling - ticking faster or slower based on speed
Clutch depressed, rolling - ticking faster or slower based on speed

It sounds like something is 'pinging' up against the transmission tunnel almost. (my car is gutted, so I hear noises much better, and this is loud).

There also seems to be a series of hitches or hesitation when starting from a stop in 1st gear.

    Any ideas?

Have you checked the condition of the quibo? Another possibility would be the drive shaft, but that probably can't be checked w/o removing the drive shaft.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I had exactly the same problem, it was the guibo ( flex disc) to drive shaft bolts/nuts were loose.
Its hard to believe, but that was it.

        same stuff dude

Your guibo or your Center Support bearing could be messed up, both easy to get to.

i just replaced my guibo for the same reason, it ticked/chirped, but my center support bearing was also a cause.

Check your Guibo and Center Support Bearing.

I took a look and both my motor mounts and tranny mounts were completely blown out. The guibo looked to be in good shape. I've parked the car and ordered new motor/tranny mounts. Hopefully that will solve the issue... hard to believe the car still drove so well/smooth w/ all those mounts destroyed.
