    325i Getrag 240 swap questions

    Hey all.

So I'm doing the auto>manual swap in my '91 325i track-car-in-training. I'm keeping the M20. I got a used, low-mileage (80k mile) Getrag 240 out of a '91 318is for the trans, and I have a 1984 318i for all the swap parts. I have read through the forums and searched here, but I still have a few questions:

    1. Is this transmission rebuildable? I know the trans for the S14 cars is almost not do-able, and someone told me my 240 is the same trans, in which case I shouldn't touch it. I'd like to tear it apart and put bearings, synchros, and MM brass shift forks in it 'cause I like everything nice and tight. I'm looking forward to rowing the close ratios...

    2. What driveshaft/guibo/flange/CSB do I need? I see guys who are putting this trans behind an M50 use the E36 shaft with the E30 CSB. Is this the way to go for the M20 as well?

    3. Trans mounts. E30 stock?

    4. Clutch. I'm gonna use a M20 single mass, after I put it on a lathe and take some weight off. I see the 228mm clutch is good for this application (not expecting more than 250hp), along with the 323 TOB. What gives with the bleeding/throw nightmares with this setup, and is it correct?

    5. Shifter. Will the lever/linkage in my '84 work? Who do you all like for short throw shifters?

    6. Pilot bearing. As far as I can tell, I just have to match up the OD with the crank and the ID with the pilot. Or is there a simple answer?

    7. Clutch slave. Off a '91 318is? And will it work with my '84 318i master?

    Thanks for the help.

      1) yes the trans is rebuildable, it is a lot different than the g240/5 in the m3

      2) m50 guys use the stock 318is driveshaft, I think its the same as an m20 car. Not sure tho.

      3) use '91is tranny mounts

      4) why would you expect anywere near 250 hp?

      7) it'll work
