every now and then in either 1st or Reverse, if i push in the clutch and try to release it, it sticks to the floor. To the point i actually need to get my foot behind it and pull it up. what is a probable cause for this?

the reason a clutch pedal will stick to the floor is the clutch return spring pivots to the point where instead of pushing the clutch back, it sends it to the floor. The clutch travel distance between the floor and the point where the clutch return spring changes angle is handled by the pressure plate's force. BMW designed the clutch so youre pushing on one spring at a time so it wouldnt give you massive left leg syndrome.
long story short, you have air in your clutch system due to a leak in either your master or slave cylinder.
Youll want to check the slave first since its easier to diagnose. Once removed, youll find a leak at the rubber seal. It could be the master cyl. in that the piston seal is cracking and allowing fluid past. You do not want this to happen because brake fluid on your carpet is almost as bad as brake fluid on paint. -
I just went through this with my "new" 85e. It happened to be my master cylinder. I replaced the M/C and slave...fixed.Comment
