Need Help on the read diff

Hi Guys,
I'm from Sri Lanka, found this dedicated E30 site over Google...
My ride is E30 316 with the M10 motor.

Purchased this car about 4 months back. There are 2 problem which i face with this.
1. There a 'huming' noice from the rear which i suspect is the diff
2. The other is that a continous 'tuk..tuk....' noice from the rear when i apply the breaks...

Hope you experts can help me out.

There are not many mechanics who handle BMW's except for the agents in Sri Lanka so i want get some knowledge before meeting a mechanic...

a bad wheel bearing will make that humming noise, i dunno about number 2 though

thanks for the reply! just want to gather more info on this before i go for the repair...
