    need help! 1987 325i auto

The other day I was driving and the car decided it doesn't know how to stay in one gear anymore. It will kick down 1-3 gears on its own. It doesn't seem to matter how fast I'm going. Any thoughts? TIA!!

Maybe detent cable binding? Unbolt it, drive, and report back...

oh, and one silly queston... did you check the ATF level?

ATF level was full. Can you elaborate on the detent cable? The transmission was supposedly rebuilt with only 1500 miles on it.

that's the cable that downshifts the trans when you floor it. It connects the TB to the trans (wraps around the intake manni/head). If it is too tight, the trans may be downshifting even when you're not "on it".

Disconnect it at the throttle (easy to do), and see if that helps

Just got back from a quick test drive. I was smiling for awhile then it started doing it again. I guess once the fluid warmed up it went to acting up again. ugh I feel sick :(
