    E30 - 5sp shifter

    Hey all,

My shifter needs a new hand and some new bushings. I have a post up in the want adds but I was wondering if there is any advantage to upgrading my shifter at this point?

If I am going to pull the stock one to replace the bushings is there a better, not expensive, after market upgrade I can do at the same time? Or are there any mods I can do to the stock shifter that will provide a upgrade to shifting?

Let me know your thoughts? Just wanted to check before I go through the trouble of swapping out the bushings.

    Thanks
    Richard.

There are a TON of threads on this. It seems as if you have an 87 325is. That should be an aluminum shift carrier. No?

Anyways. If I were you I'd replace the selector input bushing, and the shifter "cup" also know as the "bitch clip". There are also some shims that you can add to take up slack that makes a huge difference. If I were you, I'd also go with a shorter shift lever.

Sounds like you have a good days worth of reading to do to find what is right for you. Search(advanced) for "short" or "shifter" - enjoy the reading!

Z3 shifter, used, from a Z3 owner who is 'upgrading' is your cheapest solution. I think mine was $25.
