    i need a 635 csi auto tranny... what other tranny can i get to fit..

    Why do you need that tranny specifically? Is this going into a 635?

          a e24 with an m30 had a zf-4hp22

          any automatic e30 m20, e28 m20/m30, e32 m30, e34 m20/m30...

          plus lots of rwd Volvos, Jaguars, and Land Rovers.

              You can NOT use one from an M20, but any 4hp22 from a 5, 6, or 7 will fit. M20s have a completely different bellhousing and bolt pattern where they mate to the transmission.

                  What year is your 635csi anyway? Some had the 4hp22EH which won't quite work correctly on cars that didn't originally come with the EH. late '87s though the end of the E24 line had the EH...
