    rocks in my diff.

New here so be kind. From 0 to around 20mph I got a horrible thumping/popping noise in the rear.If I am turning right its much worse.Turn left not so bad.I push in clutch it stops.I get on it a little there's almost no noise. Some vibration at highway speed but no noise.

          That's strange.

I would check your CV Joints inside and outside, look for signs of wear/tearing in the boot.

Possibly unbolt the inside mount so you can work the joint by hand or at least jack up one side (Driver's most likely) of the car, put the car in neutral with handbrake off and wheel chock in front of a front wheel, then turn the elevated wheel by hand and listen for noise.

Could also be something in your tranny since it goes away with the clutch in, does it only make noise in one gear?

yeah it does sound like a wood pecker under the floor. The pass side axle is brand new. That fixed one sound but the "woodpecker" is still there.
The car did sit for 1 1/2 years before i dragged it home. Was thinking today maybe u-joints had froze up.Had an old truck that sat around for a long time that had that prob.
been like this for time i've been driving it.not really got any worse.Just annoying as hell.
The previous owner did have clutch replaced 2 years ago.Maybe they didn't get all back together correctly.I had forgotton about the clutch replacement till today.
Looks like I will be dropping the exhaust and heat shields/covers this weekend.
Hopefully I can find a good used driveshaft if needed.i don't wanna spend big bucks on a $200 dollar car at the moment. That's what I gave for it and have spent another 300 on stuff.I just don't have the cash at the moment. When I get it I will buy whatever it really needs.Motor strong as hell. The car around it is another story.

Got under there this noon and pulled out covers.carrier bearing toast.Bearing still there and frame but rubber all gone.I can see why that made such a noise.Trans mounts are oill soaked sponges.U-joints look and feel fine.I threaded thing on the rear shaft by splines was unthreaded.Screwed it back on some.I been driving like this for months.Never got worse.Just annoying. Now I see why.
How much should a new CSB cost me/what about the rubber trans mounts?Could I make solid mounts outta metal to replace the rubber ones?
I also discovered the shifter mount plate is loose and missing one bolt.No wonder it is hard to shift sometimes.IDK who did the clutch job but they must have beem on meth. That's real popular around here.

Gonna try to order new bearing soon as I can and fix/make some new trans mounts.I made similar solid mounts for my mistsubishi starion years ago and worked fine.A tad more vibration but so what. Will fix the shifter plate too.An import salveage guy in next town has many 3 serioes and has drive shafts, diff's ect out the but.He has good used parts and makes a good deal w/guarentee.Ive been let down by most of what I get fron autozone/advance.

got under car today and pulled driveshaft to replace the csb.aside from having to remove exhaust not a bad job.Still gotta put exhaust back together.PITA.U-joints ok.They will have to be for noww. Not spending 600 bucks on a 400 dollar car rite now.But I def got things all tightened back up.The 3 bolts that attatch the flex coupling to the ds;2 were loose as hell. The trans mounts were wasted so they got replaced.
I should have it driving again tomorrow afternoon.I had to cut the exhaust pipe to get it down.Gonna come up with some way to make this easier for they next time.Glad I have a welder. That thing has saved my but soooooooo many times.
If I still have some vibration thats fine.Just dont wanna hear that damned wood
pecker under the floorboard anymore.I got a new CSB for $43.I can replace a lot of those for what a new DS cost.
My u-joint caps are staked-in.any suggestions on how to cut those out.Dremel them out maybe.I can tak weld the new caps back no prob.
