short shifter for 11/85

hey,
my shifters been getting pretty loose so im going to buy all new everything and figured i might as well shorten things up a bit too. i was thinking of getting the z3 shifter but im unsure of if it will work on my early style shifter setup. bavauto has one they say is for pre-86s but its expensive. IE has one also i think.

my question is - whats the best short shift setup for the early style, or if anyone knows if the z3 will work? thanks

I just did a Z3 2.8 into '89i replaced all bushings coupler, used delrin bushings etc. had to bend shift arm drive shaft has dampner. read through the tread lots of input

As far as I am concerned the Z3 will not work for your car, I believe it was sometime in mid 1986 that they changed to the "new style" ball in carrier setup. Looks like you will have to look at aftermarket solutions.

well it seems many people have used the z3 lever in the old style. upon more research ive decided the lever will work
