Ok, clutch worked fine but there was an issue with the over-center spring breaking the inlet for the fluid. WHile I was draining it all out and replacing this I decided to change the master/slave.
Ive replaced it and bled it and it travels find and if I manually push the piston down and have someone press the pedal the piston pushes back HARD, no give.
So when I mount it up id think it would work. Instead the pedal goes to within about an inch of the floor. I pulled the slave out again and checked.
The "cup" that receives the piston arm from the slave cylinder moves freely with no resistance. I can pull it to within an inch of the hole and push it deep, all the way to what feels like a stop, with no resistance at all. just with my finger.
Obviously Im suspecting this is why my clutch isnt working. Now, this car hasnt been run for a while. Im wondering, is there some function of the clutch that would require the car to be fired up to push this back against the slave cylinder or is it broken?
Im wanting to confirm before I tried firing the car up and pushing the clutch.
