rebuilding diff question.

i have a 3.73 lsd. i have a 3.46 open. i want a 3.46 lsd. can i stick the lsd in the 3.46 ring from the open diff?

i guess what im asking before i pull everything apart is, is there a difference in ring gears whether open or lsd?

IIRC you need to swap out the ring gear and the spline gear thingy in the back of the diff where the ring gear meets the drive shaft. I dunno if that'll give you what you want tho, i never tried.

it should work. but if there is any kinds of shims swap them out as well.

If you haven't done it yet, I would use the 3.46 case leave the pinion alone. Swap out the ring gear from the diff and put the LSD with the 3.46 ring gear and fresh bearings in the 3.46 case. Here you will need to check the gear lash and carrier bearing clearance. Adjust those with the shims that go between the side covers and the case (available from BMW if the originals don't work).
