    Little, yellow, missing...

I installed a short shifter from Understeer.com over the weekend. That and the UUC clutch stop. WOW! Amazing difference in how the car feels.

Here's the question: when connecting the gear selector rod to the new shifter there wasn't room for the little yellow nylon washer in between the gear selector rod and the shifter. If I had the nylon washer in there there was not sufficient width on the gear selector rod to get the circlip mounted on the other side. It seems as if the shifter base is just a little wider than the stock one I removed. I went ahead with the install (minus the yellow nylon washer) and it shifts great. Any reason to be concerned? It seems like a minor deal but also there is a reason those nylon washers exist right?

I believe they exist to cut down on on the shifter movement from side to side when in gear but I am sure they also prevent wear from the shifter rubbing against the circlip but I am not sure on this

youll be fine. they are there only to be a surface other than metal for the shifter and circlip to rub against.

i didnt put them in when i installed mine and i havent had a problem for over 2 years.

Some shifters have those yellow shims integrated into them. The gray plastic bushing in the base of the shifter sticks out a bit on some shifters, and the yellow spacers arent required to remove slop from the assembly.

That is pretty much exactly how my replacement shifter looks. Thanks for the answers, I'll stop worrying about it now! :)
