The most awful squeal or screach!

This morning for the first time my car started making this terrible squealing sound on my way to work. It only happens after the car comes to a complete stop and then goes away after about 15 seconds of driving. The sound comes from what sounds like the rear end or the right rear wheel. I recorded me pulling away from a stoplight and added it below. I know I have to get this fixed, but any idea where to start? My first thought is wheel bearing, but I've never heard one go bad so I'm not sure.

The sound won't come back until I've come to a complete stop. Even if I get under 5mph and start up again, the sound won't return.

The timing of the sound makes me think brakes, as in it only occurs after you release brake pressure, but the noise it makes is unfamiliar to me.

You could test this by braking and accelerating from a stop.

Doesn't sound like a wheel bearing to me as the noise goes away, wheras a bearing should get louder.

Parking brake isnt releasing all the way. That specific screech is different than what Ive experienced with a sticky caliper, or the pads not set in place correctly.

Would inspect parking brake system and potentially replace the springs.

Agree with the above advice to inspect, but would get parts somewhere other than Turner.

You can also test the parking brake the same way as the service brakes.

Thanks guys! I was in the middle of redoing my interior and changing color. So I had removed the carpet and there was no interior. I had forgotten that the parking brake had to come up with carpet and apparently it had pulled off the contact for the parking brake light on the dash.

You were able to drive the car with the parking brake on and not realize it? It should have been very noticeable that it was on. If not, your shoes are probably worn out or at very least it needs to be adjusted.
