Sure, so far about 2k in parts (engine parts, new clutch kit, new engine/tranny mounts). Special tools were almost $400...for cam/vanos setup and special tool for flywheel bolts.

About $400 went to machine ship for head work.

Add another $300 for new vanos solenoids. Engine already had another $1k or so for new water pump/fan clutch/tstat/belts/external belt tentioners and alternator.

Things that were not touched, electronic throttle body with it's built in icv....ignition coils are original as well. Fuel injectors are getting rebuilt before I get them installed.

Loving the progress man. Would you mind sharing info on roughly how much this is costing?

Made some progress today, I think I figured out what pushed the oil into the engine harness....it's the vanos solenoid so I am going to replace both sides.

Didn't install the alternator and clutch kit yet as I need new o-ring for the alternator and new bolts for the new clutch kit. I think I'll order new exhaust studs/nuts as well just in case.

Need new plugs as well, and coolant and oil/filter.

I got the timing covers, valve covers, intake manifold, water pump installed and cleaned up the oil pan. Going to order the last (hopefully) few parts and maybe next weekend or weekend after that it's going in the car.

Next weekend I'll install both oil pans, and timing covers/valve covers and weight it before adding accessories.

Just did today, we'll see how that works. I used the "original" rain-x in the yellow spray bottle.

Yeah, M6x is not too bad, just lots of parts I agree. There are a couple areas that just aren't fun, and requiring special tools for even flywheel is just a pita.

Get some Rain-X and you won't miss the wipers.

Thanks for posting all these pictures btw. M6X doesn't look all of too complicated when it comes down to it, just lots of parts.

Finally some progress, not as much as I hoped for but still progress. Both heads installed, new thicker gaskets, new bolts. New timing gear/guides/chain installed.

Next weekend hopefully will have vanos units installed and timing set to get this going, I need to get this thing on the road so I can drive my e34 dd since my e30 is not very dd/rain friendly right now (no wipers, leaky sunroof FTL).

It's not exactly rocket science, everything so far has been simple...it's just the next step requires a bunch of special tools to set the timing/vanos and then rest is easy again.

Btw, were the rod-bearings colour-coded (green / red / blue) or all similar sizes?
Yes, although I am glad I have a non vanos v8 for my e30 :)

The ones that came out were not in color, and same with the new STD ones either... although some have said they should have a color mark they did not... not sure why.
