They look it. But would rather not part out another car. Market is way to slow.... Like the newer airbag as well, I have a Tech II non airbag wheel for my E36 but my GF drives it as well so i'd rather leave the safety equipment alone.
If it's not a blown head gasket, then usually it's the broken timing guides under the front timing covers. Check out my m62tu build thread, you'll see ...it's similar (minus vanos since it's an 98).
Car was clean till I opened the hood. Shop that was doing this scares me. Shop told owner the car made too much compression. Told me this via email. Clean car two small dings and it's a 12/97 4.4 with BBS RK II's in decent condition.

All I can say is wow... they really made a mess of that car. Too much compression, huh? How about lack of diagnostic skills, lol! Why the need to destroy the harness to verify compression? Yikes! I assume it's an automatic?
Pretty scary looking...
No Garey it's a 540i sport 6 speed. I wouldn't want to pay 2G's for a set of wheels. I pass on it till it becomes a 800 car.
Yup, DE53... I didn't notice anywhere that it was a 6 speed, that's why I asked... I agree, at $800, it would be worth it for the wheels and you could sell off the rest to recoup your investment.
Car looks like it was worked on by angry blind people. I'm scratching my head, trying to determine WTF they were doing in the harness - Funny!! Maybe they were looking for the high compression signal from the DME :-)
