I think there was some confusion, what I meant was a M62B44 OBD2 non-TU...putting a M62TU into my car would be out of my scope

There really would be no wow factor in a TU swapped E30, past the V8 part of it and the work integrating CAN/DSC/EWS into it would gain you no benefit, for the effort involved. If you find a NV M6X, the rest of the swap is pretty well documented, which gives you a much higher likelihood of completing it, since any questions/problems will already have been seen and solved. That, in a nutshell, is the answer to your original question of why OBDI...

          What he said.

OBDII is not much more benefit for much more work. Yes, slightly more power as confirmed through dyno tests, but way more unnecessarily complicated .....and not much more wow factor.

Just think....you think you have it all set up and installed correctly...turn the key ....and it doesn't start. Do u think you could diagnose the numerous reasons why that is? At least with OBDI, you have: fuel, ecu power...just about it. No need to see if your complicated sub-systems are working properly and feeding the ECU the proper information for the thing to turn over.

            Well actually yes!
You can very well easily get a code scanner and the much smarter ECU will tell you the exact reason why your car is not starting.
With the ECU reflash you get rid of the two O2 sensors, EGR, and air pump.

Again I'm talking about the M62B44 Non-TU....Not going to mess with an M62B44TU with pedal computer etc.

dude just research and stop fighting it, with removing all those you just said isnt that just obd i , just think about it smartguy, 2 sensors, no egr, no airpump, no ews, no throttle by wire, no dws abs, might as well add the trigger to crank pulley, obd i manifold and tuned ecu and call it a day, you can learn all this if you research if you dont want to research about the engine your planning to put in then you probaly should just figure this isnt the swap for you

There's nothing to research, there's no documented OBD2 swap, and the only problem I see is finding someone to do an EWS delete.

true but you can research other things like the engine itself and what it needs to run not if it is in a e30 or not thats just learning wiring and engine mounts.

                      that should help you

Do the OBD2 swap then. We have all voiced our opinions already. Let us know how it goes.

M62 and M62TU done many times in E30, no big deal.
Just make sure you have a friend who can program all the unnecessary things off the ECU or alternatively have all the EWS things from the donor at hand.

Not all M62's use cable, plenty of them with fly-by-wire around, at least here in Europe...

328ijunkie is getting his M62B44 ecu reflashed as we speak so I'm going to see how his experience goes.
