    Considering M60 swap..

Sup, guys... So for the past year or so, I've been considering switching over to a M60. I currently have a s52 swap. I would be switching over to M60 because of sound, torque, and of what's involved its a less common swap. From what I seen there is no unhappy M60 swappers lol. Before I start tackling this, any advice, suggestions or fingers to point me in the right direction. I have my hands on a M604.4 out of a 740. I don't want to pull the trigger on it yet, until I know I can use it. I'm thinkin 4.0 would be easier.. ive done minimum research, and your help will be greatly appreciated, as my research continues.. again thanks in advance!

Well, #1 thing you could do before you buy the engine is check the block casting and verify if it's Nikasil or the newer Alusil.

    Or do a compression check.

First of all, there is no factory M60B44 to my knowledge, that is what we are all (some of us) trying to do is to convert an M60B40 to have a 4.4L displacement (w/ B44 block/rotating assembly)

that said, definitely do it if you have fab resources and time. cheapest engine you can get with that kind of power.

Yea, fabricating some stuff up isnt an issue, the engine I have access to is a M62.. I'm looking more into this I'll keep ya posted :)

seriously though, Alusil is good, Nikasil is bad.

Nikasil engines with good compression are fine today. Gas is no longer an issue, although nikasil WILL be a resale problem.

On the other hand, if you have a 4.4L block, a nikasil engine should be a great head donor.

Sorry if I'm kind of threadjacking but why is Alusil better than Nikasil? Quality?

Starting to do my research on V8 swap.

a ridiculously quick wikipedia search on an M60 would tell you.

how difficult is this swap relative to other engine swaps?

                              With m50/s50 swaps being 3, m30 being a 5, m60 is a 10.
