M60/62 swap in Cali. What's needed to pass smog?

I'm looking into doing a swap for a family friend. Hes out of Bakersfield and I need to know what all is involved in making the car smog leagal or whatever I would have to do for him to be able to daily drive this car

performing the swap before you bring the car into CA may make this a new kind of fun, may not- have never talked to anyone who's dealt with the BAR ref (think of him as the final boss of PITA smog-techs) in that specific situation.

    generally speaking:

    - engine has to be same year as the car or newer
    - all smog equipment on the donor engine must be retained (even if recipient car did not come with this equipment)
    - anything non-stock must have a CARB EO #
    - you're strongly advised to leave the exhaust alone, from the flanges to the cats, they REALLY do not like seeing that stuff messed with; after the cat is fair game as long as it's dB-friendly.
    - if this car was originally sold in CA, you have to find a CA engine for the swap (yes, the BAR is almost certainly going to check the VINs).
    past:
    1989 325is (learner shitbox)
    1986 325e (turbo dorito)
    1991 318ic (5-lug ITB)
    1985 323i baur
    current:
    1995 M3 (suspension, 17x9/255-40, borla)

it would be easier if you did the pre 95 m60b40 swap because you wouldnt have to deal with the obdII stuff that they make you put in, and your obd II plug would have to work prefectly with no errors to get that BAR sticker, for obd I all you have to do is have the 404 ecu, CA legal cats (walker has cheap ones if you buy from Advanceauto with the coupon), and a engine check light and along with the vin number to make it easier
