    M62TU w/ 6 speed prices?

So what's a good price for a 130,000 mile M62TUB44 with a six speed transmission and all wiring/electronics?

I want to put it in my '98 328i 5 speed sedan with 187,000 miles. The m52 is hesitating at low RPMs when accelerating, and the clutch feels worn. I'm considering yanking out the m52, refreshing it and putting it my e30 project, and then the V8 goes into the e36. Or should the V8 go into the e30?

Anyway, if the price is low enough are these drivetrains worth picking up if only to put in storage until I have time for it? I like keeping BMW engines in BMW chassis. I've searched and read up on all the challenges of this, so I'm under no illusion that it would be a simple weekend project, much less months longer. But I think it would be cool, and I like to learn and gain experience with BMWs.

m62tu is probably the worst m60/m62 you can pick....in terms of maintenance.

If you can get one for 2-2.5 it's a great deal... 6speeds go over over 1k alone, bavarian recycler sells them for as high as 1600-2k (nuts), nobody wants to touch/rebuild these and they are about 100lbs dry.

personally i would look for a m62b44 pre 99 with 6speed or 5speed from the e34 530i unless you must have a 6speed, the first 5 gears in both are the same.

      I'm looking at this: http://grandrapids.craigslist.org/pts/3772557543.html

I want to buy the whole car and part it out, save the drivetrain. Just wish I had more space...

Yeah, thats a great deal. But do some research, these aren't your m20/m30/m50 when it comes to a refresh, you'll easily sink 2-3k in just basic parts if you do it right.

Just to pick up on this... I've been looking at 97-98 E39s (M62B44) with the 6 speed... Seems to be "lots" of them around.

What makes the e34 transmission desirable or do you mean in case the engine donor is automatic?

It's the only 5sp that hooks up to the V8. AKA cheaper to get clutch/FW sorted, and no driveshaft shortening, etc

              6sp = $$, but IMO, I'd rather 6sp and run a shorter rear. Then I have that 6th for highway, but I'm still quicker-ish 1st-5th.

I'm curious to see how a m62 will go into and e36. That would make one bad ass daily!

PITA. I thought about doing my M60 into my M3 (or even my e46), but need to change the oil sump to clear the subframe.

...besides, e30 looks better anyways. ;)

                    Ahh, ok. I see.

I was planning on 6 sp from square one anyway.

There's no reason not to use the E39 6 speed, right?

My intent is to build a street civilized autocross/lapping car.

So true I'm doing my swap right now and I have spent 2400 on gaskets, 5-speed, and headwork (M60B44) and it still is no where near assembled or looking like a V8
                        Because V8
