Will do! Just "a few" wires to re-pin and that's it. I'll leave the wheelspeed sensors and widebands for another day ;DLeave a comment:

First of all the WAR chip uses a MAF sensor and I used one on my M20 year back...and with all the problems I had and how touchy it is I sold it and went with MS and will never looked back at WAR chip..EVER!! and the software well I dont even want to comment on it....+ MAP sensor based is so much better to tune and so much cleaner and shit tons more reliable. Tuning software is awesome too.Compared to a Haltech E6K or MS2, a WAR chip in the stock DME is extremely capable, especially in terms of diagnostics.
Compared to a MoTeC or VEMS... maybe not so much.
Why does the stock harness suck? It's designed to be weather resistant for a lotta lotta miles.
the stock harness has 1 million useless wires on it and weights like 50 pounds LOL... I agree its bulky for no reason. I also plan on making my own harness clean ..simple and with new wiring and wrapped with new weather tight.
Not sure how VEMS compared to MS??Leave a comment:

Hi
I'm actually looking for a good aftermarket engine management... my first and the one I actually have good experience with is the Megasquirt II ...dont know much about VEMS why did you not use that one? I could potentially be up for VEMS for a good price and if its up to the task of the M62 (non vanos)..and Im in Quebec city pretty close to you so no shipping would be needed.Leave a comment:

The standalone vs. modded computer deserves a completely new post, in my opinion.....
And as for the harness, well... have you seen the size of it? And most important, mine was 20 years old.... Better safe than sorry.
I've been through that same problem many many times at work (or my own cars), you swap a motor, use the old harness and ASSUME it's fine then..., oh, misfire here, gauges working funny there. Nah, I'd rather start from scrap. And I'm using OEM or better than OEM material anyway, so I don't see the problemLeave a comment:

That statement is not totally true... and that's one thing I've discussed a million times with customers. The fact that you have the ability to "tune" the stock computer easily, doesn't make it a standalone.... There are many many options that the stock computer, quite simply, can not do. Hardware limitations being one of the main reasons. Is the WAR chip a cheap way to get a better tune for your engine if you don't have a tuner with the right equipment right around the corner? YES. Is it a standalone? ehrm..., nopes.

If the trumpets are collected into a plenum and have a MAF on the plenum inlet, the stock computer should *in theory* be able to run it... Accel enrichment, among other things will be *WAY* off, so the computer will need to be tuned. A W.A.R. chip, for example, could turn an OBDI computer into a standalone.
If you're talking about going to an Alpha-N system, then the stock computer is way out the window.Leave a comment:
